Health, Safety & Wellbeing

COVID-19 Update (20/3/20)

The wellbeing and health of all people that enter our studio is very important to us and our utmost priority.

Backstreet Dance are closely monitoring the situation as it develops and updated advice from The Australian Government will be acted on. Communication to the way we operate will be posted on this page and you will also be notified of any major changes to classes and or events via text message.

Be assured, we are taking extra precautions to protect the heath of our staff, students and families that enter our studio as follows:

- Wiping down and sanitising all door handles, faucets, audio playback devices, keyboards, water bottle stations, waiting area chairs, stair railings, reception, benches, and anything else the we observe people touching, before and after every class.

- Increasing the frequency of cleaning in our entire building

- Decreasing the physical contact with students in class and around the studio

We kindly ask everyone to continue practicing elevated levels of hygiene and staying home if you have any signs or symptoms.

By working together, we can keep doing what we love.

We ask that if you have been to any country that has been affected by the virus or been in contact with someone that has tested positive or been in contact with someone who has been overseas, to avoid attending our studio or events unless tested and cleared.

The Australian Government have advised against events of 100 people or more.

Therefore our End of Term 1 Production has been cancelled.

All current students have been notified via text (18.3/20) and an e-newsletter sent out on the night of 18.3.20.

The health and safety of our students and families is our highest priority.

We hope you understand that some things are out of our control.

We are still taking enrolments for next term as we are planning to still operate a positive happy place for students to come to express themselves and keep fit. Be assured we will continue to follow Government directions on how we operate our studio and we also are connected with Industry bodies such as Ausdance with taking extra precautions such as:

  • No physical contact between students in class eg. Partner work, group formations, hi-5’s and hugs
  • Promoting a drop and go to limit the people in waiting areas
  • Eliminating students lining up before class
  • Promoting personal hygiene and extra cleaning in our studio

What happens with my term fees if classes are cancelled due to Government directives?

Be assured that Backstreet Dance will do the right thing by people:

If things change and we need to cancel or postpone classes that are out of our control, we will certainly put your term fees in credit.

Early Bird Discount still applies:  Deadline Tues 31st March.  Save $10 on term fees!

We advise staying at home if you feel your sickness could infect others.

Ask the Teacher to have your class choreography texted to you so you can practice at home and when you are well.

Please ensure to communicate your absence to the studio via a text message.

For health enquires, please utilise the Australian Government Department of Health Coronavirus Information Line on 1800 020 080  or the health direct hotline 1800 022 222.

For the safety of students leaving after class we advise the following:

- Parents to meet their child inside the waiting area in our studio and avoid sending children outside into the carpark by themselves

- Students that drive (teens/adults): Please avoid sitting in your car by yourself, especially at night time.  Ensure someone walks with you and if no one is available, ask Reception to have someone walk out with you.

For other safety measures, please read our Studio Handbook.

PARTY WEEK (last week at the studio)

Party week involves classes showcasing their dance to another class (eg. downstairs class goes upstairs) and families are invited to support the students. It is beneficial as it gets the students ready to perform in front of a supportive audience.

However we have noticed in previous terms, that the class room can get quite crowded due to whole families coming in to watch (Eg. grandma, siblings, parents, etc).

Even though we love the support shown to students, we must make some changes for the health and safety of students, families and staff in the class room.

Therefore we are limiting only one family member per student to enter the class room when invited to sit in the class room for Party Week.

Please be aware that when you choose to come into the classroom for Party Week, that it is expected to sit on the floor. Only 1-2 chairs will be available (and will be placed to the corner) for the injured or elderly. If you are not comfortable sitting on the floor, we advise to refrain from coming int the room or ask the Teacher before the showcase begins, to find out if a chair is available to sit on. Thankyou.
