Health, Safety & Wellbeing

COVID-19 Update (28/5/20)

The wellbeing and health of all people that enter our studio is very important to us and our utmost priority.

Be assured, we are taking extra precautions and following Government advice to protect the health of our students, families and staff that enter our studio with creating and implementing our COVID Safe Plan.

Communicating this with you is of the highest importance. Thankyou for taking the time to read the following:

Backstreet Dance's COVID SAFE PLAN as follows:

  • Anyone entering the studio can choose to:
  1.  Download and show the Covid Safe App on a device (the device must be on them when in the class)  OR
  2.  Sign in a register at Reception when entering and exiting the studio

  • All students, staff and family members must NOT attend the dance studio if they are unwell with any of the following symptoms, even if only mild:
    • Cough
    • Sore throat
    • Fever (e.g. night sweats or chills)
    • Shortness of breath

A Doctor must make decisions about investigations, treatment, and management. A dance student with a possible respiratory tract infection should refrain from dancing until they have been cleared to do so by a doctor, given the potential for worsening illness.

  • Individuals returning to dance after COVID-19 infection require full medical assessment to resumption of high intensity physical activity to minimise risk.

  • Individuals should not return to dance if in the last 14 days they have been unwell or had contact with a known or suspected case of COVID-19.

  • Any individual with respiratory symptoms (even if mild) should be considered a potential case and must immediately self isolate, have COVID-19 excluded and be medically cleared by a doctor to return to the training environment.

  • If an individual is being tested for COVID-19:
    • They must immediately self-isolate and discontinue training/dancing until COVID-19 has been excluded and they have been medically cleared by a doctor to return to the training environment
    • Isolation of close contacts will be a decision for medical staff, based on case specific details

     Implement Good Hygiene as follows:

  • Sanitise hands upon entering and exiting the studio and anytime hands have touched the floor and anytime using a door handle

  • Thorough handwashing after eating/attending the toilet

  • Covering mouth and nose with a tissue or sleeve during coughing/sneezing

  • No sharing of drink bottles and towels, etc

  • No use of props or equipment during this time (unless the student uses the same prop each week and it is sanitised before and after use)

  • Avoid opening the classroom door, unless you are late or leaving during class – the Teacher will open and close the door to prevent students from touching the door handle

  • Dispose of tissues hygienically

  • Avoid touching your face

  • Avoid touching the studio mirrors

 Implement Social Distancing as follows:

  • Limit socialising in waiting areas before and after class. It’s highly recommended to arrive 5-10 mins before class starts and NOT for long periods of time.

  • Students have NO physical contact in class eg. high 5's and hand shakes and dance moves that involve contact. Choreography is created around students staying apart from each other.

  • Maintain at least 1.5 m apart at all times in all parts of the studio. Remain on your designated square and avoid stepping near the Teachers area where it is marked out on the floor

  • Minimise use of toilets where possible (aim to go to the toilet at home before coming to the studio)

  • Eliminate lining up students before class. The class door will open to let the students out. Students of the next class are instructed to wait away from the door until it is clear and entering for the next class.

  • Stage 2 of Restrictions (June):  Only one Parent per child permitted in the studio for students aged 3-4yo. All other Parents must drop and off and go where safe and possible. We recommend parking first, and walking your child to the front door of the studio and also doing the same when meeting after class. Sit or stand only in marked areas for social distancing.
  • Stage 3 of Restrictions (July): Visitors are permitted in the studio where necessary, but must limit the time and limit to only 1-2 visitors per student eg. Mum and sibling.

  • Visitors in the corridor must keep 1.5 distance – follow markings on the floor

  • Sit only in designated areas of the waiting area to maintain distancing (unless sitting with family members)

Studio Hygiene and Staff Cleaning Protocols

  • Increased cleaning procedures as follows: Wiping down and sanitising all door handles, faucets, audio playback devices, keyboards, water bottle stations, waiting area chairs, stair railings, reception, benches, and anything else the we observe people touching, before and after every class.

Safety of Students EXITING the studio

For the safety of students leaving after class we advise the following:

- Parents to meet their child at the front door of the studio during Stage 2 of Restrictions (in June) or if during Stage 3 of Restrictions, July onwards, to meet their child inside the waiting area in our studio and avoid sending children outside into the carpark by themselves due to many moving cars.

- Students that drive (teens/adults): Please avoid sitting in your car by yourself, especially at night time.  Ensure someone walks with you and if no one is available, ask Reception/Manager to have someone walk out with you. ie. Jeff or Deb or a Teacher.

For other safety measures, please read our Studio Handbook.
