Health, Safety & Wellbeing

COVID-19 Update (9/7/20)

The wellbeing and health of all people that enter our studio is very important to us and our utmost priority.

Be assured, we are taking extra precautions and following Government advice to protect the health of our students, families and staff that enter our studio with creating and implementing our COVID Safe Plan.

We have extracted this from the RETURN TO DANCE (Principles & Framework for Restarting Dance Activities) by Ausdance (a Government Industry Body for Dance) and also the Dance and Physical Performing Arts INDUSTRY COVID SAFE PLAN dated 3 July, Stage 3.

Communicating this with you is of the highest importance.

Thankyou for taking the time to read the following:

Backstreet Dance's COVID SAFE PLAN as follows:

  • Anyone entering the studio can choose to:
  1.  Download and show the Covid Safe App on a device (the device must be on them when in the class)  OR
  2.  Sign in a register at Reception when entering and exiting the studio (this does not apply to students as the Teacher keeps a record of attendance in the class room)

  • All students, staff and family members must NOT attend the dance studio if they are unwell. A Doctor must make decisions about investigations, treatment, and management. A dance student/staff member with a possible respiratory tract infection should refrain from dancing until they have been cleared to do so by a doctor, given the potential for worsening illness.

  • Individuals returning to dance after COVID-19 infection require full medical assessment to resumption of high intensity physical activity to minimise risk.

  • Individuals should not return to dance if in the last 14 days they have been unwell or had contact with a known or suspected case of COVID-19 or visited Victoria/hotspots around Australia.

  • Any individual with respiratory symptoms (even if mild) should be considered a potential case and must immediately self isolate, have COVID-19 excluded and be medically cleared by a doctor to return to the training environment.

  • If an individual is being tested for COVID-19:
    • They must immediately self-isolate and discontinue training/dancing until COVID-19 has been excluded and they have been medically cleared by a doctor to return to the training environment
    • Isolation of close contacts will be a decision for medical staff, based on case specific details

     Implement Good Hygiene as follows:

  • Sanitise hands upon entering and exiting the studio and anytime hands have touched the floor and anytime using a door handle

  • Thorough handwashing after eating/attending the toilet

  • Covering mouth and nose with a tissue or sleeve during coughing/sneezing

  • No sharing of drink bottles and towels, etc

  • Limit the use of props or equipment during this time (unless the student uses the same prop each week or props are sanitised before and after use)

  • Dispose of tissues hygienically

  • Avoid touching your face

  • Avoid touching the studio mirrors

 Implement Social Distancing as follows:

  • Limit socialising in waiting areas before and after class. It’s highly recommended to arrive 5-10 mins before class starts and NOT for long periods of time.

  • Limit physical contact in between students and the Teacher. If contact is made, sanitise hands during class is recommended. (Please note that the INDUSTRY COVID SAFE PLAN outlines that contact is permittable during Stage 3)

  • Remain on your designated square where possible during class (as we have measured out where students can stand and we are using the 2 square metre rule outlined in the DPPA Plan.)

  • Eliminate lining up students before class. The class door will open to let the students out. Students of the next class are instructed to wait away from the door until it is clear and entering for the next class.

Parents/Carers/Visitors:

  • Stage 3 of Restrictions: Visitors are permitted in the studio where necessary, and limited to at least 1-2 family member per student (eg. mum and sibling) but must abide by the 1.5 metre rule. If the studio is unable to achieve this, excess family members will be asked to leave.

  • Visitors in the corridor must keep 1.5 distance – follow markings on the floor

  • We have not marked the waiting areas because family members can sit together. Please sit apart if the person next to you is NOT a family member i.e. 1.5 m apart.

Studio Hygiene and Staff Cleaning Protocols

  • Increased cleaning procedures (following a detailed COVID Safe cleaning checklist) as follows: Wiping down and sanitising all door handles, faucets, audio playback devices, keyboards, water bottle stations, waiting area chairs, stair railings, reception, benches, and anything else the we observe people touching, before and after every class.

Safety of Students EXITING the studio

For the safety of students leaving after class we advise the following:

- Parents can come into the studio, but if you are dropping and going - please meet your child inside the waiting area in our studio and avoid sending children outside into the carpark by themselves due to many moving cars.

- Students that drive (teens/adults): Please avoid sitting in your car by yourself, especially at night time.  Ensure someone walks with you and if no one is available, ask Reception/Manager to have someone walk out with you. ie. Jeff or Deb or a Teacher.

For other safety measures, please read our - OUR POLICIES.
